Veneers

The veneer is a thin layer of restorative material placed over a tooth surface, either to improve the aesthetics of a tooth, or to protect a damaged tooth surface. Veneers are thin tooth "shells" that are aesthetically designed to match the shape and color of your existing natural teeth. They can help give you the beautiful smile that you have always wanted. They are used to close gaps between teeth, create pleasing alignment for misaligned teeth, can help change the color of your teeth, can protect chipped or cracked teeth, and can help change the shape and size of your teeth. There are two main types of material used to fabricate a veneer, composite and dental porcelain. A composite veneer may be directly placed (built-up in the mouth), or indirectly fabricated by a dental technician in a dental laboratory, and later bonded to the tooth, typically using a resin cement. A porcelain veneer may only be indirectly fabricated. They are typically made out of porcelain, which is one of the strongest materials available. Sometimes good satisfying results can be attained with little or no tooth preparation and sometimes the teeth need to be prepared depending on the case.

In the initial consult with our Doctors at Absolutely Best Dental practice, we take photographs and impressions for doing mock preparation after determining what the patients needs are. The mock preparation or diagnostic wax up from the Laboratory gives the patient an idea about what can be aesthetically achieved and then proceed with the final fabrication of the veneers.
